Process v. Product

From May's Attempts On Her Life
It's always nice when one gets to enjoy both.  In my case, both "nice" and "enjoy" are really understatement.  The process of putting a performance together is what keeps me alive; presenting the final product to an audience is why I live.
And speaking of process and product....  This news is a bit old, but I can't help but share it anyway.  I think the world of Available Light Theatre: the founding members, under the leadership of Artistic Director Matt Slaybaugh, and the company's board have continued to astound and amaze me with AvLT's business practices and its artistic endeavors.  And clearly, I'm not alone in my agog-ness.  This October, the Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) presented its Artistic Excellence Award to AvLT.  This is a $10,000 prize, given annually "to an arts organization that has demonstrated innovation, risk and artistic excellence in a performance, exhibition or program."  Specifically, AvLT won for its May production of Attempts On Her Life, and I am very pleased to say that I appeared in that show with 7 terrifically talented ladies.  For the full article - and to see what other venerable and impressive organizations/productions AvLT was competing with, click here.  Yay, AvLT!  Want to see more innovation, risk, and artistic excellence? Reserve your tickets now for The Life and Death of Richard the Third, my fourth show with AvLT.  We opened last night, and the production is already being called a "kicky and arch modern retelling."  Come see for yourself!
